Is yours a
pre
1980 home?
A typical
Northwest home has to little insulation in the floors,
ceilings and walls. Homes built before 1970 may not
have any wall insulation.
These homes are currently wasting energy dollars unless of course
they have been weatherized and insulated to current
recommended levels. The pre 1980 home, will probably
not have adequate ceiling insulation and may not have any
floor insulation.
Adding ceiling insulation if needed, can be the easiest and least
expensive improvement to your home. Under floor
insulation will save just as much energy as ceiling
insulation so make sure your floors are insulated and don't
forget to insulate the water pipes, it will save water
heating costs as well as protect them from freezing.
Adequate wall insulation is often missing in older homes.
Heating ducts is another area that is often over looked.
Proper insulation will reduce the amount of energy
needed for space heating and help eliminate comfort robbing
drafts. |

If you had
a hole in an outside wall the size of a basketball, wouldn't
you fix it?
Of course you
would, espec-ially in winter. But surprisingly many
people's homes have the equivalent of a basketball size hole
or bigger with various drafts, heat leaks, unsealed windows
and doors and the like.
RichArt can find and eliminate these wasteful heat leaks and
uncomfortable cold drafts effectively and at relatively low
cost.
We are an established leader in home air leak testing.
Finding air leaks is as easy as pressurizing an area of your
home with a "blower door". The pressurized air tries
to escape the interior of your home through the cracks,
holes, around doors, windows electrical and plumbing
fittings, attic access and other areas.
We carefully test each potential leak area. Leaks are
detected using a small, highly visible stream of white
chemical smoke from a special leak detection tool. |

Once leaks are
identified, our crews use caulking, weather-stripping,
sealants, and other devices to stop or reduce the air
flow. We can eliminate up to 90% of these
uncomfortable heat-wasting drafts and air leaks.
Contrary to common belief,
heat does not rise, hot air rises. Heat will
escape at an equal rate through the floor, walls, or
through the ceiling.
